Utah Weather Alert: 3 Feet of Snow and 60 MPH Winds to Bury Wasatch Mountains Until 5 A.M. Thursday

Salt Lake City, Utah – Mountain travel across northern Utah will become treacherous by 5 p.m. Monday as heavy snow and wind gusts up to 60 mph hammer the Wasatch Range, with whiteout conditions likely at times through 5 a.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Wasatch Mountains, Wasatch Back and Western Uinta Mountains, including Park City, Alta, Brighton, Heber City, Logan Summit and along the Mirror Lake Highway. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet are expected, with up to 3 feet possible in the Upper Cottonwoods and Bear River Mountains. Winds will gust to 45 mph in the Wasatch Back and up to 60 mph along higher ridgelines through Monday night, continuing at times through Wednesday.

Heavy snowfall intensifies Monday night, continues into Tuesday afternoon, then briefly eases before another surge Tuesday evening and again Wednesday. Travel over Parleys Summit on I-80, Guardsman Pass and Logan Summit could become slow or impossible at times, with traction restrictions likely.

Drivers should carry winter survival kits and check UDOT road updates before departing. Additional restrictions or road closures may be issued as snow bands redevelop through midweek.
