Salt Lake City, UT – Utah is set to experience extreme weather conditions, with a significant heatwave and critical fire weather warnings issued for the coming days.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Salt Lake City, a strengthening ridge of high pressure will bring dangerously high temperatures to southern Utah, starting Sunday. Afternoon highs are expected to reach between 110 and 115 degrees, with overnight lows remaining in the upper 70s. This Excessive Heat Warning will be in effect from 9 AM Sunday through 9 PM Tuesday, with the potential for further extensions.

Additionally, the NWS has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the western Uinta Basin and San Rafael Swell. West to northwesterly winds with gusts up to 30 mph and low relative humidity levels between 5-12% are anticipated to create critical fire weather conditions on Saturday afternoon and evening.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions during these extreme conditions. Hydration, wearing light clothing, and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas are crucial for safety. Outdoor activities should be shifted away from peak heat hours between 10 AM and 4 PM. Residents are also urged to be cautious with campfires, fireworks, and other activities that could spark fires, adhering to local fire restrictions.
