Salt Lake City, UT – A major shift in Utah’s spring weather is on the way, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and snow starting Thursday. Residents should prepare for wet conditions on the roads, especially on I-80 and mountain passes.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin Thursday morning before intensifying into thunderstorms in the afternoon. Winds from the south will reach up to 14 mph. The evening will bring colder air, transitioning the rain into snow before midnight. Northern Utah, including Salt Lake City and higher elevations, could see 2 to 4 inches of snowfall overnight.
By Friday, snow showers will continue in some areas, with a 30% chance of flurries early in the day. High temperatures will hover around 42°F, while overnight lows drop to 31°F. Another round of light snow is possible Friday night, leading into a colder weekend.
Saturday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies and scattered snow showers, with highs in the low 40s. Overnight temperatures will dip below freezing, increasing the chance of slick roads. By Sunday, conditions will improve, with sunny skies and highs reaching the low 50s.
Drivers should use caution on highways, especially I-80 and mountain roads, where conditions may deteriorate rapidly. Stay updated with the latest forecasts and prepare for a mix of spring rain and winter-like snow through the weekend.
