Grand Junction, CO – Red Flag Warnings are in effect today across northeastern Utah and much of western Colorado, signaling a high risk of extreme fire behavior due to a combination of dry fuels, gusty winds, and low humidity. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction issued the warning early Sunday, indicating that conditions would be critical from noon to 8 p.m. MDT.
According to the NWS, recent rains have not significantly alleviated the dry conditions in the region. Relative humidity levels are expected to drop between 7% and 15%, with winds from the southwest blowing at 10 to 20 mph, and gusts reaching up to 30 mph. These factors create an environment conducive to the rapid ignition and spread of fires.
The forecast for the week ahead in Grand Junction remains hot and dry, with temperatures climbing into the high 90s and low 100s. Today’s high is expected to reach 96°F under clear skies. Similar temperatures will persist through Monday and Tuesday, with highs of 96°F. By Wednesday, the temperature will edge up to 98°F, and by Thursday, it is forecasted to hit 100°F. The week will culminate in scorching conditions on Friday, with a high of 102°F.
