Fort Wayne, Ind. – Storms packing strong winds and locally heavy rainfall could impact parts of Indiana through 8 p.m. Saturday, especially east of I-69, before a dangerous heat wave settles in midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday evening, with low confidence in storm coverage. The strongest cells may bring damaging winds and flash flooding, particularly near the I-80 corridor and areas east of I-69. Another round of storms is possible Sunday, mainly south of US Route 30, with a marginal risk for severe weather.
Communities including Fort Wayne, Warsaw, and Huntington should stay weather-aware tonight and prepare for slick roads, downed branches, or brief power outages. Sunday’s threat shifts toward Kokomo, Logansport, and Rochester, where storm timing may impact afternoon travel.
Starting Wednesday, heat index values could top 100°F across much of Northern Indiana. Highs will range from 88°F to 95°F, with elevated humidity increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor work during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Heat alerts may be issued as early as Tuesday. Stay tuned for updates as both storm chances and extreme heat extend into late next week.
