Old Forge, New York – Snow will overspread the Adirondacks after 1 a.m. Wednesday, with up to 7 inches expected by Thursday morning, setting up difficult travel across Hamilton and northern Herkimer counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday. Total snowfall between 3 and 7 inches is expected, with the highest amounts across higher elevations including Old Forge, Long Lake, Eagle Bay and Big Moose.
A fast-moving clipper system will bring widespread snow late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. By Wednesday afternoon, a cold front will trigger scattered snow showers and isolated snow squalls, briefly reducing visibility along Route 28, Route 30 and other Adirondack roadways. Lake effect snow may redevelop Wednesday night before tapering early Thursday.
Drivers should plan for snow-covered pavement and sudden drops in visibility, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Reduce speed and allow extra braking distance. Snow tapers by early Thursday, but slick conditions may linger beyond sunrise.
