Albany, NY – The National Weather Service in Albany released updated snowfall totals Saturday showing widespread lake-effect snow across eastern and upstate New York from Thursday evening through early Saturday morning.

According to the latest analysis, the heaviest snow fell in western portions of the forecast area, with reports of 10 to 15 inches near Utica, Gloversville, and western Herkimer County. Areas farther east and south, including Albany, Troy, and Pittsfield, MA, saw lighter totals ranging from 1 to 4 inches.

Forecasters said the snow event began Thursday evening as cold air moved over warmer lake waters, triggering persistent lake-effect bands that shifted east into the Adirondacks and Mohawk Valley by Friday.

While the snow has now ended, roads remain slick in some areas, particularly where heavier bands left deep accumulations. The Weather Service noted that the event marks one of the first significant winter systems of the season—arriving just as meteorological winter begins Monday, December 1.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time and stay updated on upcoming weather systems expected next week.
