Binghamton, NY – A fast-moving band of heavy snow is sweeping across parts of central New York and northern Pennsylvania this morning, creating hazardous travel conditions with sudden drops in visibility and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, the snow band was observed at 6:08 a.m. EST, stretching from Richmondville, NY, to Candor, NY, moving southeast at 45 mph. Winds within the snow band are reaching up to 30 mph, rapidly reducing visibility to less than one mile.

Areas impacted include Otsego, Chenango, Tioga, Broome, and Delaware counties in New York, as well as Susquehanna, Northern Wayne, and Bradford counties in Pennsylvania. Key locations affected include Franklin, Chenango Valley State Park, Hallstead, and Port Crane.

Interstate travel is significantly impacted, with hazardous conditions reported along Interstate 81 between exits 1 and 7, Interstate 86/Route 17 between exits 63 and 90, and Interstate 88 between exits 1 and 19. Drivers on Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between exits 219 and 230 should also exercise caution.

A second snow band is affecting Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Tioga, and Tompkins counties, moving southeast at 35 mph. Areas such as Watkins Glen, Horseheads North, and Mark Twain State Park are experiencing similar hazardous conditions.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution, as rapidly changing visibility and slick roads may lead to accidents. Those who must drive should allow extra time, reduce speed, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
