Petersburg, WV – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington (LWX) has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Western Grant and Western Pendleton Counties in eastern West Virginia, in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon, December 10–11, 2025.
Forecasters warn of heavy upslope snow showers developing as a clipper system moves through the Ohio Valley and interacts with the Allegheny Mountains.
Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are likely, with localized totals up to 10 inches along ridgetops. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, leading to blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility at times.
The snow may begin mixed with rain early Wednesday, but will change to all snow by mid-morning, intensifying later in the day and overnight. Travel could become difficult, especially along U.S. Route 33, WV Route 42, and the higher elevations of Spruce Knob and Dolly Sods.
Gusty winds may also down small tree branches and create areas of drifting snow on exposed roads.
Residents and travelers are urged to monitor updated forecasts, prepare for possible Winter Storm Warnings, and plan for hazardous travel conditions through Thursday.
