Marquette, Mich. – Showers are spreading across Upper Michigan today, with the northern half of the U.P. expected to see the heaviest rainfall and a chance for thunderstorms. Winds are adding to the unsettled pattern, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph in the Keweenaw, raising concerns for travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a cold front is driving scattered showers across the region while keeping temperatures mild in the upper 60s to mid-70s. Forecasters note that conditions could briefly turn stormy this afternoon, though widespread severe weather is not expected.

Residents in Marquette, Houghton, and Ironwood may need extra caution on the roads, as heavy downpours could reduce visibility. Power outages are not likely but cannot be ruled out in the Keweenaw where winds peak strongest. Officials recommend securing loose outdoor items and preparing for slick roads during the evening commute.

Cooler, calmer weather returns Thursday with highs only in the 50s to low 60s, before sunshine breaks through again on Friday.

Showers and breezy conditions remain the main threat today, but the shift to cooler, drier air should ease concerns by midweek. Additional weather statements may be issued if storms intensify.
