Upper Peninsula of Michigan Issues Swim Caution as Dangerous Waves Expected

Marquette, MI – A swim risk advisory has been issued for the beaches of Alger County in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula through this evening due to dangerous waves and strong currents. The National Weather Service in Marquette has warned that areas such as Grand Sable Dunes, Miners Beach, and Au Train Bay could be especially hazardous. Residents and visitors are urged to exercise extreme caution, with only experienced swimmers advised to enter the waters.

According to the National Weather Service, breaking waves and powerful currents are expected to pose a threat throughout the day, particularly in exposed regions such as Grand Marais Harbor and areas within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Swimmers are advised to stay away from dangerous areas like piers, break walls, and river outlets.

Looking ahead, the weather in Marquette will remain mostly clear with a gradual warming trend expected later in the week. Tonight, temperatures will dip to 53°F before climbing to a high of 65°F. As the week progresses, Wednesday will see sunny skies with a high near 69°F, and by Thursday, temperatures are forecasted to reach 76°F. The weekend will bring slightly warmer conditions with highs in the upper 70s, reaching 82°F by Sunday.
