Minneapolis, MN – The Upper Midwest will remain firmly frozen next week as Arctic air continues to dominate the region, keeping temperatures well below normal and bringing occasional flurries from December 9 through December 15, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 Day Outlook, issued December 1.

Forecasters expect highs to stay in the teens and 20s across Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, with overnight lows dipping into the single digits — and even below zero in northern areas. Minneapolis, Fargo, and Green Bay will see some of the coldest readings, with wind chills occasionally dropping to -10°F to -20°F.

NOAA’s forecast also shows above-normal precipitation, signaling periodic light to moderate snow across the northern tier. While no major storms are expected, several weak systems could bring a few inches of accumulation, especially around the Great Lakes and Red River Valley.

The deep cold will stand in stark contrast to the West Coast and Southwest, where temperatures are trending well above average under a milder, wetter Pacific pattern.

For the Upper Midwest, however, the story remains winter’s grip — bitter cold, gusty winds, and scattered snow showers — as Arctic air holds firm through at least mid-December.
