Escanaba, Mich. – Thick fog is expected to blanket parts of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula overnight, creating dangerous travel conditions for morning commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EDT Monday for Delta, Dickinson, and Menominee counties. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less, making highways and rural roads especially hazardous.
Cities including Escanaba, Gladstone, Iron Mountain, and Menominee are expected to see the worst impacts. Drivers on U.S. 2, U.S. 41, and M-35 should prepare for sudden drops in visibility, particularly near rivers and low-lying areas.
Officials urge motorists to slow down, use headlights, and keep a safe following distance. Those with early commutes or school bus routes may need to allow extra travel time.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually after sunrise as the fog lifts, but lingering patches could still cause delays. More advisories may be issued if visibility remains low into Monday morning.
