Marquette, MI – A winter storm will bring up to six inches of snow and dangerous cold to central Upper Michigan this weekend. Travel conditions could deteriorate rapidly, with slippery roads and reduced visibility expected.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. Snowfall totals between 3 to 6 inchesare possible, with the highest amounts in central and eastern Upper Michigan. Lake effect snow could continue into early next week, prolonging hazardous conditions.
Wind chills may reach 25 below zero by Monday morning, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia for those outdoors too long. Drivers should exercise caution, as icy roads and low visibility could make travel treacherous.
Sunday will remain cloudy with lingering snow showers and highs near 8°F. Another round of snow is possible Monday, keeping roads slick for the start of the workweek.
If you must travel, check weather updates frequently and allow extra time for commutes. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle with blankets, food, and a flashlight.
