Kankakee, IL – United Way is encouraging local employers and employees in Kankakee and Iroquois counties to share and use updated food pantry directories now available at myunitedway.org/food. The lists are maintained regularly and include locations and hours for pantries across both counties.

In a message to community partners, United Way highlighted multiple ways workplaces can strengthen food security:
- Give to the Health Impact Fund (supports seven local pantries) or donate directly to a nearby pantry. Cash gifts often stretch further, since pantries buy in bulk below retail prices.
- Host a donation drive. United Way can supply collection boxes and coordinate distribution across multiple pantries.
- Schedule a 10-minute team presentation on navigating community resources—including 211, Kan-I Help, the Homeless Helpline, and more—so staff can quickly connect neighbors in need.
- Attend/boost the Empty Bowls fundraiser next week to further support local food programs.
“Access to food is core to our mission to improve health, education, and financial stability,” said Mariah Vail, United Way Executive Director, noting that donors this year already support seven local food programs through United Way.
