The first earthquake, a 2.9 magnitude tremor, hit at 6:22 a.m., 40 kilometers east of the town. A second quake followed only five hours later, registering at 2.6 magnitude, 39 kilometers away at 11:39 a.m.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), both earthquakes had shallow depths, with the first quake recorded at 5.3 kilometers deep, and the second at 3.4 kilometers.
