Minneapolis, MN – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Minnesota starting late Friday, bringing up to 8 inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions. Ahead of the storm, strong winds gusting up to 50 mph will affect the state throughout Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for central and southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. The advisory warns of gusty winds capable of downing tree limbs and causing power outages. Drivers, especially those on I-94 and I-35, should prepare for difficult conditions.
By late Friday night, a Winter Storm Watch takes effect, lasting through Saturday afternoon. Forecasters predict heavy snowfall between 5 to 8 inches, with strong northeast winds reducing visibility. Snowfall rates could peak during Saturday morning, making travel dangerous.
Saturday will see continued snowfall before tapering off by the evening, with temperatures dropping to -4°F overnight. Sunday is expected to be clear but frigid, with a high of 14°F.
Residents should secure outdoor objects, prepare for possible power outages, and limit travel during the storm. Stay updated with local weather alerts and road conditions.
