Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN – Drivers across the Twin Cities and much of southern Minnesota should prepare for slick road conditions late tonight into Monday morning, as a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, cloud cover will continue increasing this afternoon ahead of the system. Wintry precipitation is expected to develop late this evening across southwest Minnesota, then spread east into the Twin Cities metro overnight before continuing into western Wisconsin early Monday.
While accumulations are expected to remain light, forecasters warn that even small amounts of ice or sleet could create slick spots, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. The greatest travel impacts are expected during the Monday morning commute.
High temperatures today will range from 20 to 35 degrees, rising into the mid-30s to near 40 on Monday. By Tuesday, highs are expected to reach the upper 30s to near 40, as the region transitions into a warming trend that could bring milder temperatures by midweek.
Precipitation is expected to transition primarily to snow in western Wisconsin, while areas farther west may see a mix before tapering off Monday morning.
Motorists traveling along Interstate 94, Interstate 35, Highway 52, and other major corridors across Hennepin County, Ramsey County, Dakota County, and neighboring areas are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions.
