Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota – A heat and humidity surge across Minnesota will push heat indices above 100° by Sunday, with the Twin Cities under an Air Quality Alert today and a chance for strong storms late Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, temperatures will climb daily through the weekend, peaking between 90–95° on Sunday afternoon. Saturday brings partly cloudy skies and rising humidity, while Sunday will feel oppressive with hot, muggy conditions and scattered storms possible after 3 p.m.

Air quality remains a concern Friday due to lingering pollutants and stagnant air, especially in the metro area. Sensitive groups should limit outdoor exertion. Meanwhile, overnight lows will remain warm—hovering in the upper 60s to low 70s—offering little relief from the heat.

Residents across Hennepin, Ramsey, and Dakota counties should prepare for increased AC usage, potential power strain, and outdoor event disruptions on Sunday. Avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours (1–5 p.m.) and hydrate frequently. If storms develop, localized flooding or lightning delays could affect travel and recreation plans.

This heat pattern should ease slightly by Monday, though temperatures will still remain above average. Stay alert for possible heat advisories or thunderstorm warnings through the weekend.
