MINNEAPOLIS–ST. PAUL, Minn. – A sharp cold front moving through late Thursday will bring a dramatic temperature drop across the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota, ending the recent mild stretch. After highs in the 50s midweek, readings will tumble into the 30s this weekend, with a mix of rain and snow likely Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, today and Thursday will stay mostly sunny and mild with highs near 55°F. Breezy northwest winds will follow the evening front, ushering in much colder air by Friday.

Friday remains partly sunny but noticeably cooler, with highs only in the mid-40s. By Saturday, moisture spreading north from Iowa could bring rain and wet snow across southwest and south-central Minnesota, including Mankato and Albert Lea. Little accumulation is expected, but slick spots could develop on elevated roads overnight.

The coldest air of the season will settle in by Sunday, with morning lows in the teens and highs barely reaching 30°F. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, protect sensitive plants, and prepare for the season’s first true winter chill.
