Tulsa, OK – Elevated fire weather conditions are expected to continue across Tulsa and northeast Oklahoma through the remainder of the week and into the weekend, driven by gusty winds, dry air, and dormant vegetation, according to the National Weather Service in Tulsa.
Forecasters said northwest winds may gust near or above 40 mph, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours, creating conditions favorable for rapid fire spread. While temperatures will remain near to slightly below average, multiple dry cold fronts are expected to pass through the region over the next 5 to 7 days, reinforcing dry conditions.
The National Weather Service emphasized that fire danger will be highest during the afternoon, when wind speeds peak and humidity drops. Areas most at risk include open grasslands, rural roadsides, and locations with cured winter vegetation, especially across Tulsa, Bartlesville, Miami, McAlester, and surrounding communities.
Forecast data shows little to no rainfall expected across much of eastern Oklahoma during this period, limiting moisture recovery in fine fuels. Overnight humidity improvements will be modest, allowing fire potential to redevelop quickly each day.
Officials urged residents to avoid outdoor burning, properly secure trailer chains, and exercise caution with equipment that could generate sparks. Even small ignition sources may lead to fast-moving grass fires under these conditions.
