Tucson, AZ – A storm system tracking across Southeast Arizona today will bring noticeably cooler temperatures, pockets of light rainfall, and breezy to locally windy conditions across the region. Minor impacts are expected, but brief episodes of reduced visibility are possible due to blowing dust along the leading edge of the front.
According to the National Weather Service Tucson office, rainfall totals will remain light for most of the area. Valleys across Tucson, Marana, Vail, and surrounding communities may see only a few hundredths of an inch to 0.10 inches of rain. Higher terrain areas, including the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, could pick up one-third to one-half inch of rain. While widespread heavy rainfall is not expected, the showers will move through in scattered clusters throughout the day.
Southwest winds will be the more noticeable element of today’s weather pattern. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph are forecast, especially during the afternoon. The NWS warns that these gusts may stir up localized blowing dust, briefly dropping visibility to just a few miles, particularly along open desert stretches and east–west roadways.
Despite the unsettled conditions, impacts are expected to remain minor overall, with most outdoor activities able to continue as planned. Drivers traveling near Sahuarita, Green Valley, Benson, and Willcox should stay alert for sudden reductions in visibility and secure any loose outdoor items before winds increase.
Skies will gradually clear later tonight as the system exits to the east, leading to calmer conditions Monday.
