Addison, IL – Authorities now say a propane leak caused the truck explosion that shook a neighborhood in Addison on Saturday morning, prompting evacuations and traffic closures on North Wood Dale Road.
According to the Addison Police Department, the crash and explosion were investigated with assistance from the DuPage County Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Officials have ruled the incident accidental, citing a propane tank that leaked into the vehicle.
The blast, which occurred around 8:43 a.m., scattered debris across several blocks and damaged nearby homes. Only the truck’s driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No other injuries have been reported.
Crews from Addison Public Works and DuPage County are currently clearing the site. Authorities expect the affected stretch of Wood Dale Road to reopen within the next few hours.
Emergency personnel had earlier evacuated one home and closed off the roadway from Lake Street northward. Firefighters also checked the area for hazardous gases and sealed fluid leaks from the vehicle.
The Addison Police Department extended gratitude to local and county crews for their assistance and urged residents with questions to call 630-543-3080 for more information.
