Houston, TX – Houston and Galveston remain under a tropical storm watch as Tropical Storm Francine moves closer to the Texas coastline. The storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Tuesday. Both tropical storm and hurricane warnings have been issued along the Gulf Coast, including the Houston and Galveston areas.

According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Francine’s maximum sustained winds are at 65 mph. Coastal areas could experience gusts up to 65 knots, and seas could reach up to 17 feet. Storm surge warnings predict 1 to 3 feet of flooding along beaches east of Freeport. Officials urge residents to avoid crossing barricades and to secure their homes and vessels.

The Houston area is also under a heavy rain warning from Tuesday to Wednesday. Coastal flooding, dangerous surf, and localized flash flooding are expected. Authorities recommend residents prepare for possible evacuations and stay updated with weather alerts.
