Charleston, SC – Tropical storm-force winds and dangerous marine conditions are expected to batter the Southeast Atlantic Coast from Cape Fear, North Carolina, to Charleston, South Carolina, through Sunday, as Tropical Depression Three pushes north toward the shoreline.
According to the National Weather Service, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for offshore waters south of Cape Fear, where winds may reach 35 knots and seas could build to 11 feet by Saturday night. A Tropical Storm Watch has also been issued from Edisto Beach to Charleston Harbor, with gusts up to 40 mph and seas rising to 7 feet expected by late Saturday.
Coastal areas including Charleston, Edisto Island, and McClellanville face a risk of storm surge flooding up to 2 feet above ground, especially during high tide Saturday evening. Inland wind impacts may remain limited, but loose objects and tree limbs could become hazards.
Marine conditions will be most hazardous Saturday through early Sunday, with widespread thunderstorms, squalls, and rapidly changing sea states. Mariners should remain in port, secure vessels, and monitor updates from the National Hurricane Center.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve beginning Monday, though strong surf and swells could linger along the coast into midweek.
