Whites City, NM – Three earthquakes shook southern New Mexico Saturday, occurring in rapid succession near Whites City. The first, a 3.9-magnitude tremor, hit 59 kilometers south of Whites City at 11:01 a.m. local time. This was followed by two smaller quakes, a 2.8-magnitude tremor at 11:03 a.m., and a 2.6-magnitude quake at 11:04 a.m., creating concern among residents.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of all three quakes was located near the Texas border, close to the city of Juárez, Mexico. The quakes ranged in depth from 2.4 to 6.7 kilometers. Citizens have started reporting their experiences via the USGS “Did You Feel It?” tool, contributing to the community internet intensity map.
