Columbus, OH – Residents across Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia are being urged to take precautions as widespread frost is expected to settle in overnight and persist through early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, a frost advisory remains in effect from late Thursday evening until 9 a.m. Friday. The advisory covers large portions of central and southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, and western West Virginia, where overnight lows are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s.
Sensitive outdoor plants may be damaged or killed if left uncovered. Residents are encouraged to bring potted plants indoors or cover them with breathable cloth to protect them from frost exposure.
Frost advisories are typical for the region during early spring, but the timing may catch some off guard after recent warmer weather. Agricultural sectors in rural counties such as Boyd, Scioto and Kanawha may be particularly impacted.
Drivers should also be alert for possible patchy frost on windshields early Friday. Commuters are advised to allow extra time in the morning for de-icing.
Temperatures are expected to rebound by midday Friday, bringing some relief before another potential cold front arrives late weekend.
