Memphis, TN – Scattered severe storms are expected to impact Memphis and much of the Mid-South Thursday afternoon into the evening, with primary threats including damaging winds and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the severe weather window runs from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, April 10. A slight risk level has been issued for western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas, with no tornado activity anticipated. Forecast models show wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph and a 15% chance of hail one inch in diameter or greater.

The rainfall total is projected to remain under 0.5 inches, minimizing concern for flash flooding. However, ongoing minor flooding from recent storms may persist in some areas. The Storm Prediction Center notes confidence remains medium for severe storm development and high for additional isolated flooding.

Residents are advised to move vehicles under cover, secure outdoor objects, and stay indoors away from windows during storm activity. Have a shelter plan ready in case warnings are issued.

While conditions are not expected to deteriorate overnight, officials urge vigilance until the threat clears late Thursday evening.
