Lassen County, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to blanket the Sierra region starting Friday morning, bringing heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains active until 10 p.m. Thursday. An upgraded Winter Storm Warning begins at 7 a.m. Friday and lasts through 10 p.m. Saturday. Snowfall is expected to accumulate between 3 to 8 inches below 5,500 feet, with higher elevations receiving 12 to 20 inches. Peaks could see up to 3 feet of snow.
Winds are forecast to gust up to 45 mph, with ridges experiencing gusts as high as 75 mph. These conditions could bring down tree branches and create hazardous driving conditions on area highways, including Highway 395.
Residents are urged to prepare for slippery roads and carry emergency supplies if traveling. The storm is expected to disrupt commutes on Friday and Saturday.
Travelers should check road conditions by dialing 511. Officials advise avoiding non-essential travel during the storm’s peak.
