Reno, NV – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through Thursday night and a Winter Storm Warning from 1 p.m. Friday until 10 p.m. Saturday for the Greater Lake Tahoe area.

Heavy snowfall and high winds are expected to create hazardous conditions. The advisory warns of up to 4 inches of snow at lake level and up to 12 inches on higher peaks. Winds could gust up to 65 mph, creating waves of 1 to 3 feet on Lake Tahoe.

The Winter Storm Warning predicts 3 to 8 inches of snow below 6,500 feet and up to 30 inches along the Sierra crest. Gusts could reach 120 mph on ridges, and travel may become impossible, especially west of Highway 89. Boaters should remain off Lake Tahoe due to dangerous wave conditions.

Officials advise travelers to carry emergency supplies and monitor road conditions by calling 511. Strong winds may also cause tree damage and power outages.

Stay cautious if traveling and expect delays. Hazardous conditions could impact Friday and Saturday commutes.
