Homewood, IL — A shooting at a busy Homewood intersection on Tuesday evening led to a multi-vehicle crash and left two people hospitalized with minor injuries, according to police.
According to a Homewood Police Department press release, the incident occurred around 6:08 p.m. at the intersection of 175th Street and Dixie Highway. Investigators allege that the occupant or occupants of a vehicle traveling northbound on Dixie opened fire while turning westbound onto 175th Street. The rounds were allegedly aimed at a vehicle stopped at a red light on eastbound 175th.
The targeted vehicle, reportedly attempted to flee and struck another traveling southbound on Dixie. The impact pushed Unit #2 into a third vehicle, which was stopped in the northbound lane of Dixie at 175th. Authorities say the suspect vehicle fled the area westbound on 175th Street.
Two occupants were treated at the scene by Homewood Fire Department paramedics and later transported to the hospital with what were described as minor injuries. No injuries were reported from the other involved vehicles, although two additional vehicles, as well as an unoccupied vehicle in the East Hazel Crest Metra parking lot, were also struck by gunfire.
