DeKalb, IL – A portion of Lincoln Drive North on the campus of Northern Illinois University will be closed this week for critical utility work, affecting access near the West Heating Plant.
According to Northern Illinois University Police and Public Safety, the closure spans from Grant Drive East to Stadium Drive East and began Sunday. Crews are delivering and installing a new deaerator and condensate tanks to improve heating infrastructure. The work is part of ongoing upgrades to NIU’s energy systems.
The university expects Lincoln Drive North to reopen by Thursday, April 25. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use alternate routes and allow extra travel time when moving through the area.
NIU encourages those on campus to follow posted detour signs and stay alert around construction zones. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
