Tornado Watch Issued for Florida Peninsula Due to Hurricane Helene Until 8PM

Miami, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center has issued Tornado Watch Number 683 for parts of the Florida Peninsula and nearby coastal waters. This watch will remain in effect until 8 p.m. EDT Thursday, September 26, 2024.

According to the NWS, the watch has been prompted by Hurricane Helene, which is strengthening and increasing the risk of tornadoes across the region. The threat extends approximately 85 miles east and west of a line from Ocala, FL, to west-southwest of Miami, FL. Areas in the watch zone should be alert to changing weather conditions and heed warnings as they are issued.

Residents are urged to monitor updates and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
