ndianapolis, IN – The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has issued Tornado Watch 57, affecting parts of Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa until 9 p.m. CDT Wednesday. Residents in the impacted areas should remain vigilant as severe storms capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail move through the region.
According to the NWS, multiple counties in western and central Indiana, including Benton, Clay, Greene, Knox, and Tippecanoe, are under the watch. Several counties in Illinois, such as Champaign, Peoria, Rock Island, and Vermilion, are also included, along with Scott County in Iowa.
Meteorologists warn that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes, especially in areas where warm, moist air collides with an incoming cold front. Strong wind gusts and large hail are also possible, posing risks to property and safety.
Residents should monitor local weather reports and be prepared to take shelter immediately if warnings are issued. The NWS advises having a safety plan in place, securing outdoor objects, and avoiding travel in severe conditions.
Emergency management officials urge residents to stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio, local news stations, and official alerts for updates as the situation develops.
