La Crosse, Wisconsin – Drivers in western Wisconsin should stay alert Friday as strong thunderstorms are expected after 1 p.m., potentially bringing hail and gusty winds to areas south of Interstate 90. The National Weather Service warns that hail up to 1 inch in diameter and sudden downpours may affect road conditions during peak travel hours into the evening.
According to the NWS in La Crosse, the best chance for storms will stretch across southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa, especially near and south of I-90, including La Crosse, Monroe, and Richland counties. Additional rounds of rain and thunderstorms are possible again on Sunday and Monday, which may disrupt outdoor plans through Father’s Day weekend.
Friday’s high will reach 80°F with southeast winds near 6 mph before storms develop. Rain totals are expected to stay light, under a tenth of an inch, but isolated heavier downpours can’t be ruled out if storms intensify.
Saturday will be drier, with a 20% storm chance after 1 p.m., before widespread showers return Sunday and Sunday night. Monday and Tuesday both carry storm chances, with temps in the low-to-mid 80s and humid conditions continuing into early next week.
⚠️ Thunderstorm risk returns Friday afternoon and again Sunday night through Tuesday. More alerts may follow if storm strength increases.
