Thunderstorm May Have Contributed to Dixon Head-On Crash on Route 2

Dixon, IL – A head-on collision on Illinois Route 2 near Dixon on Friday left two individuals seriously injured. The crash occurred around 6:21 p.m. when a 2017 BMW, driven by Nicole M. Hitchcock, 53, of Winnebago, collided with a 2013 Ford Expedition driven by Edith A. Canales-Kobbeman, 48, of Rock Falls. The accident took place near the intersection of Illinois Route 2 and Sink Hollow Road.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles following the crash. Bystanders removed the Ford driver as her vehicle caught fire. Both victims were transported to KSB Hospital. The Ford driver was later airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for further treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. The sheriff’s office noted that a severe thunderstorm was passing through the area at the time, potentially contributing to the incident. The Dixon Police Department, Dixon Rural Fire Department, and Advance EMS Ambulance Services assisted at the scene.
