Montana – Scattered severe thunderstorms are forecasted to impact northern and central Montana this afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center. The primary threats from these storms include large hail and severe wind gusts, potentially causing damage and hazardous conditions across the region.

Thunderstorms are expected to initiate in the terrain of southwestern and south-central Montana during the afternoon hours, moving northeast as the evening progresses. Initial storms are likely to be discrete, but with large temperature-dewpoint spreads, they may rapidly evolve into outflow-dominant systems, increasing the potential for severe wind damage. Some of the strongest storms could also produce large hail, particularly in central and eastern Montana, where conditions are slightly more favorable for intense storm development.

The NWS has advised residents in the affected areas to stay alert for weather updates and be prepared to take shelter if severe weather strikes. The risk extends into parts of the central High Plains, including the Black Hills and western Nebraska, though storm development in these areas is less certain.

Stay tuned to local weather reports for the latest updates and safety information.
