Quad Cities, IA/IL – The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Dense Fog Advisory and Wind Advisory for much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, warning of hazardous driving conditions as the busy Thanksgiving travel period begins.

The Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in places like Davenport, Moline, Burlington, Macomb, and Dubuque. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow for extra travel time during the morning commute.

Following the fog, a Wind Advisory takes effect from midnight tonight through mid-afternoon Wednesday, bringing west to northwest winds of 25–30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected north of I-80, where tree limbs may come down, power outages are possible, and driving could become difficult, particularly for semis and high-profile vehicles.

Residents are encouraged to secure holiday decorations and outdoor objects, and motorists should use caution on open roads and bridges, where gusts will be strongest.

The NWS warns that travelers heading out early for Thanksgiving may face rapidly changing weather conditions, from dense fog to strong winds and potential debris on roadways.
