Virginia Beach, VA – The early morning calm along the Virginia coast won’t last long. Travelers waking to quiet skies will see a quick shift midweek as a passing system brings a round of showers before clearing out in time for Thanksgiving.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, clouds will thicken Tuesday evening, with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms possible by late night. Winds will pick up slightly out of the south, gusting to around 20 mph near the shore. Rain totals should stay light, but the damp roads could slow pre-holiday travel along I-64 and Route 58.

By Wednesday afternoon, skies begin to clear as drier air moves in behind the front. Temperatures will climb into the lower 70s before cooler air settles in late Wednesday night. Thanksgiving Day itself looks picture-perfect: sunny, mild, and breezy, with highs near 51°F and crisp coastal air — ideal for outdoor family plans or a post-turkey walk on the beach.

The holiday weekend turns cooler but calm. Friday stays sunny with highs in the mid-40s, while Saturday and Sunday bring more of the same — dry, seasonal air and plenty of sunshine before another system approaches early next week.

Five-Day Outlook:

  • Today: Partly sunny, high 65°F.
  • Wednesday: Showers possible, high 71°F.
  • Thanksgiving Day: Sunny, high 51°F.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny, high 45°F.
  • Saturday: Sunny, high 46°F.
