Lubbock, TX – A winter-like weather shift is set to impact the Texas South Plains and Panhandle this Saturday, as a strong storm system brings cold, blustery conditions, rain, and snow. Affected areas include Lubbock, Muleshoe, and parts of the surrounding region. The storm, already producing rain today, is expected to bring up to 1.5 inches of additional rainfall before tapering off on Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will likely cause temperatures to plummet, with morning lows in the 30s and 40s, followed by falling temperatures in the afternoon. Winds will gust between 20 and 30 mph, creating wind chill factors as low as the teens and 20s.

Snow is anticipated to begin in the far southwestern Texas Panhandle, spreading into the South Plains, with areas like Muleshoe and Tulia seeing 2 to 4 inches of accumulation. Lighter snow could extend as far south as the southern South Plains and along the Caprock escarpment.

Residents and travelers in the affected areas should monitor conditions closely and be prepared for rapidly changing weather.
