Austin, TX – A major shift in temperatures is on the way for Austin as bitter cold gives way to a significant warming trend.
According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until noon Thursday, with wind chills as low as 3°F. However, by the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise, bringing relief from the freezing conditions.
Friday will remain chilly with a high of 37°F, but by Sunday, temperatures will climb to 61°F under partly sunny skies. The warm-up continues into next week, with highs reaching the upper 70s by Tuesday.
With the frigid air lingering overnight, residents should continue to take precautions, dressing in layers and ensuring pets stay indoors. Those using space heaters should follow safety guidelines to prevent fires or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Expect cloudy conditions Friday night, followed by a 50% chance of showers on Saturday before the sunshine returns Sunday.
