Austin, TX – South-Central Texas residents should prepare for potentially severe storms today, with the highest risk in areas east of I-35. The National Weather Service warns of large hail and damaging winds developing late this afternoon into the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms will likely intensify between 4 p.m. and midnight. Rainfall totals could reach up to an inch in isolated areas. Drivers along I-35 and surrounding roads should exercise caution as visibility may be reduced during heavy rain.

Looking ahead, Christmas Day is expected to bring decreasing clouds with highs near 68°F, providing a sunny and calm respite from today’s storms. Wednesday night temperatures will dip into the low 50s before another marginal risk of storms returns on Thursday. Hail and damaging winds remain a concern, though the risk is lower than today.

By Friday, skies will clear with mostly sunny conditions and highs near 73°F. Temperatures will stay mild through the weekend, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the upper 40s.
