San Saba, Texas – Residents along the San Saba River are getting welcome news after recent flooding, as river levels have fallen below action stage and the flood threat continues to diminish across the area.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the Flood Warning for the San Saba River at San Saba has been canceled after the river dropped below action stage Sunday afternoon. The river was measured at 19.3 feet as of 1 p.m. CDT Sunday, below the 20-foot action stage, and is forecast to continue receding through Tuesday.
The river remains well below established flood thresholds, with minor flooding beginning at 24 feet, moderate flooding at 27 feet, and major flooding at 31 feet. Forecasts indicate water levels will continue falling steadily over the next several days, reducing any remaining flood concerns for nearby low-lying areas.
While the immediate flood threat has ended, residents should continue to use caution around riverbanks, where swift currents, saturated ground and debris left behind by high water can still pose hazards. Property owners along the river should also inspect for erosion or damage before returning to affected areas.
The National Weather Service says no additional updates are expected for this event unless conditions change. River levels are forecast to continue declining through Tuesday, bringing an end to this flooding episode across the San Saba area.
