Austin, TX – A cold front sweeping into South-Central Texas on Monday night will bring the first significant freeze of the season to the area. Residents should prepare for lows dropping into the 30s by midweek, with clear skies and brisk conditions expected to follow.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, temperatures will reach 82 degrees Monday afternoon before the front arrives. This sharp drop will usher in freezing temperatures by Tuesday night, particularly in areas like Llano, Burnet, and Blanco counties. Freeze warnings may be issued for Wednesday and Thursday mornings, with temperatures dipping into the 30s across much of the region.

Monday will see sunny skies and highs in the low 80s, while Tuesday will feature cooler highs near 60 degrees. Strong northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph will add to the chill Tuesday night, making outdoor activities uncomfortable.

Drivers should exercise caution this morning due to patchy fog and mist reducing visibility on major routes like I-35 and Highway 290. Fog is expected to lift by 9 a.m., with rain chances ending.

Looking ahead, Wednesday and Thursday will bring clear skies and frosty mornings, with highs only reaching the mid-60s. Residents should protect sensitive plants, outdoor pets, and exposed pipes during overnight freezes.
