CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – South Texas is bracing for a dramatic shift in weather this week, with sweltering heat and triple-digit temperatures giving way to increased chances for rain by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, temperatures are expected to soar into the high 90s and low 100s for many inland communities on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cities like Laredo and Cotulla could see highs climb to 103°F and 102°F, respectively, creating potentially dangerous conditions for outdoor activities. Coastal areas, including Corpus Christi, will experience highs in the low 90s.
A change in the weather pattern begins Thursday, bringing a higher probability of rainfall that will last through Sunday. Coastal and inland areas near Victoria and Kingsville have a 40-50% chance of receiving at least half an inch of rain. The increased cloud cover and rain will offer some relief from the heat, with high temperatures dipping slightly into the upper 80s and low 90s for the latter half of the week.
Beachgoers should remain aware of conditions, as an extreme UV index is present. While the rip current risk is low, conditions can change. The next high tide at the Bob Hall Pier is expected at 9:44 a.m. CDT. Residents should stay hydrated and monitor updates as the rain moves in.
