Houston, Texas –The pavement is already warming under a hazy July sun, and the sticky Gulf air is making it feel hotter by the hour. Anyone heading outdoors across Southeast Texas will notice the oppressive humidity building quickly as another stretch of dangerous summer heat settles over the Houston area.
Houston, Texas – According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will climb to around 95 degrees this afternoon, but humidity will push heat index values as high as 104 degrees. South winds around 5 to 10 mph will do little to cool conditions, and prolonged time outside could increase the risk of heat-related illness.
The heat doesn’t back off after today. Sunday’s high reaches 98 degrees with another 104-degree heat index, while Monday climbs to 101 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday remains hot with highs near 97 degrees, extending a prolonged stretch of above-normal temperatures across Southeast Texas.
Across the broader region, a strengthening upper-level ridge will continue building over the southern Plains, allowing hot and humid air to dominate much of Texas through early next week. While daily pop-up storms remain possible along parts of the Gulf Coast, the official Houston forecast stays dry through Tuesday. Organized severe thunderstorms and tornado potential remain very low locally during this period.
Drivers along I-45, I-10, Beltway 8, the West Loop, and the Gulf Freeway should keep extra water in their vehicles and prepare for extreme heat inside parked cars. Outdoor workers, youth sports participants, gardeners, and anyone attending weekend events should schedule frequent breaks in the shade and drink water before feeling thirsty.
Warm nights will offer little relief, with lows staying in the upper 70s. That limited cooling allows heat to accumulate over several days, increasing stress on people without reliable air conditioning.
Long-range outlooks continue to signal above-normal temperatures through late next week, keeping summer firmly in control across Southeast Texas.
