Texas – Crisp air stings cheeks early this morning across the Panhandle, while frost clings to windshields and open fields glow under clear skies. By afternoon, jackets come off fast. A strong warming trend is already underway, and it accelerates into the second half of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, temperatures rebound quickly after a cold start, climbing near 60 today under full sun. North winds ease through the afternoon, improving travel conditions on I-40, US-287, and Loop 335 after a chilly commute. Dry roads dominate, but early slick spots remain possible where moisture lingered.

Amarillo International Airport readings show lows near freezing early, followed by steady daytime warming. That pattern repeats midweek. Wednesday stays sunny but cooler, with highs in the low 50s and a cold morning near 30. Any melted frost can refreeze briefly, creating a classic February flash-freeze risk before sunrise.

By Thursday, the tone shifts. West winds usher in warmer air, pushing highs into the upper 60s. Friday feels even milder, topping out near 71 with sunshine and light winds. Outdoor plans improve fast, and travel remains smooth across Potter and Randall counties.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook signals above-normal temperatures spreading across West Texas late next week. While snow and ice threats persist farther north, Amarillo stays dry, calm, and increasingly springlike into the weekend of Feb. 6–8.

Drivers should still plan extra time during cold mornings, especially on bridges and shaded roads. Conditions change quickly this time of year.
