Lubbock, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle are bracing for another bitterly cold night as temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits, continuing a stretch of frigid conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lubbock, air temperatures will remain much the same as the previous night, with widespread single-digit lows across the region. While wind chills may be slightly higher than before, dangerous cold will persist, making outdoor exposure hazardous.
Forecasted temperatures include 6°F in Childress, 7°F in Floydada, and 9°F in Lubbock, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Areas like Plainview and Brownfield are also expected to see lows around 9°F to 10°F. The NWS warns that prolonged exposure to these conditions can lead to frostbite and hypothermia.
Officials urge residents to take precautions by dressing in layers, covering exposed skin, and limiting time outdoors. Those with pets or livestock should ensure adequate shelter and warmth.
Cold conditions are expected to persist through the week, with no immediate warm-up in sight. Travelers are advised to check road conditions before heading out, as icy patches may develop overnight.
