San Antonio, TX – A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to impact Central and South-Central Texas, including San Antonio and Austin, beginning late Friday evening and continuing into early Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio office, the primary threats include large hail, damaging wind gusts, and frequent lightning. A slight risk (Level 2 of 5) has been issued for areas west of I-35, including Del Rio, Uvalde, and Kerrville. A marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) extends eastward through Pleasanton, Cuero, and La Grange.
Storms are forecast to develop after sunset Friday, with peak activity likely between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday. While widespread severe weather is not guaranteed, any storms that develop could become intense quickly. Afternoon highs across the region will reach the upper 80s to mid-90s, helping fuel instability.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, especially if planning to be outdoors Friday evening. Have multiple methods to receive warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio and mobile alerts. If storms approach, seek shelter indoors and avoid travel in affected areas.
This system follows a trend of springtime severe weather typical for the Edwards Plateau and I-35 corridor during early April.
