Oklahoma City, OK – Residents northeast of Oklahoma City were rattled early Friday morning after two minor earthquakes struck near Arcadia within minutes of each other.
According to the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the first earthquake registered a magnitude 3.0 at 4:04 a.m. CDT about 5 kilometers west-northwest of Arcadia. A second tremor, measuring magnitude 2.8, followed just six minutes later at 4:10 a.m. in nearly the same location. Both quakes occurred at shallow depths of just over 2 kilometers.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported light shaking across the Edmond area and northern portions of Oklahoma City. As of Friday morning, no damage or injuries were reported, though five people submitted “Did You Feel It?” responses for the 3.0 quake and one for the 2.8 event.
Oklahoma, historically known for oil and gas activity-linked seismic events, has seen reduced earthquake frequency in recent years, but occasional clusters still occur. Friday’s quakes serve as a reminder for residents to stay prepared.
Authorities advise securing heavy furniture, reviewing emergency kits, and knowing safe spots in homes such as doorways or under sturdy tables. Anyone experiencing shaking should “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.”
